SP Events: Bonobos at Cynthia Rowley Pants Party

0

Well, the summer is drawing to a close so what better way to send the season (and all those colorful britches) packing than with one last pants party, in Charleston, no less. This time it was Bonobos.com who came a calling. Celebrating the brand’s first pop-up shop in the South, the online retailer settled in for a two week spell at Cynthia Rowley’s shop on King Street. Some of Charleston’s most social fellows were slated as hosts and Buster Brown, Dustin Pitts, John McCrady Williams and Ryan Willoughby brought out the neo-dandies in full force. With school starting and fraternity rush and all the things these guys had going on this week it was nice to see them don the dapper drawers and bring out their friends. I ask you if there is a better looking crowd or better dressed collection of college kids in this country, I would like to see them. Bravo to the boys who aren’t afraid to dress up and head out on the town. And from the looks of it, the girls seem to follow them. Are you paying attention fellas? It’s time to dress for success. Social, romantic, business or otherwise.

  1. The Bonobos business model is a bad one. They make the assumption that guys don’t want to shop so they don’t have retail stores. This means that you can’t try them on before you buy, so you have no way of knowing if they’ll actually fit. They only make a single cut (OK, so theres a slim cut in a single style, too) of pants which means that, by definition, they will fit a certain body type but not others. On top of this, the pants come unhemmed for that “perfect fit” which means that you have to take the time and energy to do some sewing or take them to a tailor. Either way, its a much more painful process than walking into a store and choosing, from a variety of brands and styles, a pair of pants that actually fit.
