There are invitations and then there are invitations. There are theme parties and then there are theme parties. There are Toga Parties, Fancy Dress Parties, Great Gatsby Parties and the list goes merrily on. It has been noted before that SP loves a theme party, any chance to break out and add a little spice to the day or night . When an invitation arrived via one of my favorite blogs —
A Trip Down South — to attend the 2nd Annual Fun Pants Party at the Carolina Yacht Club, well, it had to be seriously considered. First, SP loves a yacht club. Secondly, Fun Pants? Yes. SP has more than his share of crazy pants and while it takes a certain amount of bravado to pull off this look in the general public, there are a few enclaves for the birds of a feather. The Hamptons come to mind, Palm Beach of course, golf courses and Charleston. Since SP fully embraces the so-called Go-to-Hell Prep look for all occasions, this party was a sartorial smash, even if the invitation was meant to be humorous. It just so happened that one of my favorite women on the planet was jetting in from New York for her Charleston debut and what better way to introduce Charleston to a visitor than with an excellent summer mixer?
These photos all depict the civilized portion of the evening, on the patio of the yacht club next to the water with the gracious houses on East Bay Street as a backdrop. Some in the party then progressed to a bar down the street, with a band and much sweaty dancing and boozing. That portion, for propriety’s sake, was not photographed.
